Tulcán to Otavalo Ecuador

The ride from Tulcán to Otavalo could be described as hills with mostly reasonable grades (one very tough uphill as I got close to Ibarra). Much of the ride was between two ranges of mountains. From Tulcán to just south of San Gabriel, the scenery was mostly green farmland. A little ways past San Gabriel, the scenery switched to a desert like environ much like the southwest United States. Finally, it switched back to a lush green as I approached Ibarra, which is near Otavalo. Much of the ride was next to volcanoes, but I have yet to see the top of a volcano as they have always been in the clouds. Hopefully, that changes in the next few days.

One thing I learned: there are not as many restaurants along the road as there is in Colombia. I was seriously hungry as I was approaching Ibarra.
